Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need FCA authorisation to offer crypto services in the UK?
From 25 October 2027, firms carrying on regulated cryptoasset activities for UK consumers need FCA authorisation. The regulated activities include operating a trading platform, dealing and arranging, safeguarding, staking, lending and borrowing, and issuing stablecoins.
What happens if I miss the application window?
Once the application window closes, firms that haven’t applied in time may face limits on what they can do in the UK after the regime comes into effect, or need to put wind-down plans in place. Firms that don’t apply at all will have to cease their UK business.
Will my current FCA registration carry over?
No. FCA guidance published in September 2026 confirms that existing registrations and permissions won’t convert automatically. Firms need to apply for the new regulated activities they carry on.
Does the UK regime apply to firms based outside the UK?
It can. The regime covers activity involving UK consumers, wherever the firm is based. A crypto trading platform serving UK consumers from overseas, for example, needs FCA authorisation and a UK presence.
How can an international crypto firm enter the UK market?
Firms can apply for FCA authorisation for the activities they plan to carry on, or reach UK consumers through an authorised partner whose infrastructure already meets the rules. Which route fits depends on your activities and timeline. Talk to Zumo
What is FCA PS26/11?
It’s the FCA’s policy statement setting final rules for regulated cryptoasset activities, published in June 2026. It’s the first of the final policy statements covered by the tracker.
How can Zumo help?
Crypto Access, Zumo’s embedded solution for the UK market, brings trading, custody and customer onboarding together in a single stack, with localised AML and financial promotions workflows built in. It connects to your platform through an API, alongside modules for fiat on and off ramping through UK payment rails. Our team supports you from setup through to launch.
Does the tracker tell me whether my firm is compliant?
No. It lists the obligations that apply to your activities, each linked to its source. Whether your firm meets them is a judgement for your compliance team and advisers.
How often is it updated?
The remaining four policy statements will be added as they clear review, and you can ask to be notified when each one goes live. Sign up for updates
